ABOUT
My Emerson Collective Experience
There is no denying that I was in for something seriously special with my time at Emerson Collective. While I worked from home like most during the Summer of 2020, I feel so grateful for the opportunities and experiences that I was able to come across with this incredible company. I worked as a sports investments intern this summer, with a lack of sports in the world. However, my supervisors and my team made it nothing shy of beneficial not only for me but for the future of sports. While current play of competition was not occurring - something greater was. That something was change. Change in our country, our world that we live, and in the mindsets of others that would ignite a social revolution. This is where I come in. In what way can we utilize athletes to further ignite these initiatives? This "way" that we worked on was the right to vote. The thing about sports, is that it is never just about sports so being able to utilize a platform like athletes to push a subject like the importance of voting and the obstacles that so many people face when it comes to voting was extremely rewarding. I learned more than I ever expected I would about the subject and am fully comitted to continuing these efforts. In addition to the many projects I chartered as a sports investments intern, I was also able to speak and listen to fabulous guests. Every week we had opportunities to speak to staff at the "Atlantic", numerous politicians such as Cory Booker and Mitch Landrieu, authors like Jen Palmeiri, and historians at the Smithsonian. We have also had the pleasure to speak to many leads on many projects regarding social justice issues as well as report to the company owner - Laurene Powell Jobs. Of all of our speakers throughout the 8 weeks, my favorite was certainly Marc Elias.
